Coinbase Commerce is closed
According to Coinbase's transition guide, the Commerce dashboard became inaccessible after March 31, 2026 and new charges can no longer be created.
Coinbase Commerce alternative
Coinbase closed the Coinbase Commerce portal on March 31, 2026 and moved merchants to Coinbase Business, a custodial account for businesses with a legal entity in the US or Singapore. Payclave is a non-custodial alternative: customers pay through a hosted checkout, and USDC or USDT on Polygon settles directly to a wallet you control.

Coinbase Business credits payments to an account Coinbase holds, and it is open to legal entities in the US and Singapore.
Like the legacy Commerce wallets, Payclave settles to a wallet you control. There is no Payclave account in between and no later payout.
Switching to Payclave
Sign up, open the dashboard in test mode, and create a secret key for your server. Test mode does not move real funds.
Choose USDC or USDT on Polygon and add a wallet you control. Live payments settle there directly.
From your backend, create a checkout session with the trusted amount and your order reference, then send customers to the hosted checkout URL.
Verify X-Payclave-Signature on each webhook and fulfill orders on invoice.paid, after Payclave has verified the payment onchain.

Coinbase Commerce wallets were self-custodial: the merchant held the recovery phrase. Coinbase Business works differently. Funds are credited to a Coinbase-held account, the API moved from the Commerce Charge API to new Checkouts endpoints, and onboarding requires a registered business and a business bank account.
If you still have funds in a legacy Commerce wallet, follow Coinbase's transition guide for recovering them. Payclave cannot access or move funds in Coinbase wallets.
Coinbase Business can suit a US or Singapore business that wants a custodial account, USDC settlement with a bank off-ramp, and the Coinbase brand at checkout. Payclave suits merchants that want settlement to land in their own wallet, prefer USDT or USDC on Polygon, and do not need Payclave to convert stablecoins to fiat.
